This is probably one of the first views many people get when they stroll into Edam from the car park or the bus stop.

Once again, it must be said, this picture does do the place justice and does not have anything like the impact that one would actually experience.

Notice the white bridge on the left. It uses a counter-balancing idea, so that one person can open the bridge to allow taller boats to pass along the canal.
